ou will bring into your project your own priorities, and we will assist you in making the best possible choices that give you the most of what's important to YOU, while staying within your budget.
THE PRICE OF MATERIALS
The materials used to build your home can be found in a wide range of prices. Some of these materials become an integral part of the structure and can't easily be upgraded later. We suggest that you choose a high quality structure (walls, roof, windows) and, if need be, select more modest finishes which you can more easily upgrade or add to later (flooring, lighting, cabinetry).
DESIGNING FOR BUDGET
In order to keep the cost of your project in line, we first identify your target budget. Your contract is based on the numbers from your Cost Estimate Worksheet that have been worked until your design parameters fit your budget. We design for that budget from the beginning and assist you in making materials choices consistent with the overall plan.
Estimating the cost of a custom home before it is designed is a matter of identifying certain design elements and materials and assigning them cost factors. The price of any new home is the sum of the cost of materials and labor. Labor costs fluctuate, depending on the time of year and availability of work. Costs also vary depending on the skill and level of services of the subcontractor. FINANCING
Our homes are financed like any other home building project. Banks require certain information about the type of home you are building, which we will provide them so they understand our product and approach. Check to see if your lending institution has special rates for energy efficient homes, because your Sunlight home will qualify!
We suggest that you visit your banker and get prequalified so you know how much you will be able to borrow. You might be able to borrow more than you want, so consider these questions. What is a comfortable monthly payment? How many years is reasonable for you to be paying the mortgage? With the answers to these questions you will have a target to aim for in your home building project.
