Cost of a Sunlight Home

Your budget should be considered in every decision when designing a custom home. While the final choices are always yours, we can help to design the best home your budget will allow. Further, we can point out where your money will be best spent; based on your personal priorities.

Our clients expect to pay a little more for their Sunlight home than for a traditional custom home with similar finishes because of the higher grade materials used in the shell and the attention given to the design. They also know that, in the long run, their home will cost much less to operate and maintain.

That said, it doesn't have to cost a lot more to build a really great home! See the next page for our pricing information.

The Hidden Advantage of Building Custom

What offsets the additional cost of higher quality materials in our custom homes is that there isn't unneeded space or features. Our homes are designed to have only the things that are important and nothing more, so money is spent on the things that matter most. This type of design takes skill, but the payback is obvious!

Staying in Budget

In order to keep the costs in line, the target budget is identified for every new project. Before a contract is signed, the budget is discussed. We run a Cost Estimate Worksheet and, if you decide to build a Sunlight home, our contract amount is based on the numbers from that worksheet.

The price of any new home is the sum of the cost of materials and labor. Labor costs fluctuate, depending on the area, time of year and availability of work. Costs also vary depending on the skill and level of services of the subcontractors. See our page in this section on the Cost Estimate Worksheet for details.

Financing

Our homes are financed like any other home building project. Banks require certain information about the type of home being built, which we provide. Some lending institutions offer special rates for energy efficient homes, and a Sunlight home will qualify!

It's important to visit your banker and get prequalified so you know how much you will be able to borrow. You might be able to borrow more than you want or need. In any event, consider these questions:

• What is a comfortable monthly payment?
• How many years is reasonable to be paying the mortgage?

With the answers to these questions you will have a target to aim for in your home building project.
