What is a Sunlight Home?

A Sunlight home is a wonderfully comfortable, energy efficient, green, solar custom home. Sunlight homes are designed in direct response to your personal design needs, aesthetic tastes, climate, topography and building budget. Solar orientation, prevailing winds and views or obstructions at the building site also play an important role in the design.
We have specialized in designing sustainable, custom passive solar home plans since we went into business in 1975. Our homes can be found from California to Massachusetts, from Minnesota to Arizona and many places in between. Natural day lighting, passive solar design and energy efficient, structural insulated panels (SIPs) are part of every Sunlight passive solar home plan.
High Tech, Soft Touch
We use technology to our advantage in our design process and materials selections, while maintaining a deep respect for the "softer" side; design elements that make a home feel good. We have developed a strong understanding of how to design healthy, green passive solar home plans that feel inviting and very comfortable.Using ArchiCad, a sophisticated, 3-D architectural software, our clients enjoy seeing 3-D models of their new passive solar home plan as their design progresses. Contractors appreciate our detailed, engineered plans because they are clear and comprehensive. Our homes are built with a high tech, structural insulated panel (SIP) building system which is super insulated, strong and tight, yet our homes are soft, with sunny window seats, cheerful kitchens, cozy porches and an easy flow from inside to out. Most of our clients are long distance and broadband communications make working with them, their contractors and our suppliers easier than ever.
Style + Sustainability
Sunlight homes can be designed in any architectural style, from ranch to Southwestern, contemporary to farmhouse, or to blend with homes in your area. The SIP building system increases design options, allowing lofts, vaulted ceilings and interesting window groupings. We use the superior strength and insulation values of structural insulated panels to our best advantage in the designs of our passive solar homes.
Our favorite passive solar design principals have evolved over the years. This comes from our ongoing research into sustainable home design, materials and methods, and from listening to past clients as they live in their Sunlight homes. Updated passive and active solar design principals combine with the comprehensive use of Pattern Language design theory to create a new home design that is exceptionally energy efficient and comfortable.
Everyone comes to us with a different set of needs, wants and priorities. We work to make every Sunlight home as sustainable and green as possible while working toward our clients' individual goals.
TQM
When our clients decide to build a Sunlight home they do so because they agree with our design philosophy and they like how our homes look and feel. It's important, however, that the process is systematized so things move ahead in an orderly fashion. Our systems approach and implementation of Total Quality Management (TQM) make our projects more predictable and our clients can have more confidence that their project will go smoothly from design through construction.
That's Smart!
It's our belief, and the belief of our many customers, that combining sustainable, green design with high tech materials and methods is the simple formula for a very smart home. We hope, after learning more, that you'll agree.
