Sunlight homes come as a kit or component package that is assembled and completed by your local builder. Our packages include what we consider to be the most important components of a quality, sustainable home.

We specify other materials and methods in our plans for the builder to follow so that our homes are built with more attention to detail.

Our Component Package includes:

• complete custom design services
(see DESIGN for details)

• super insulated SIP walls + roof
(see BUILD for details)

• high performance windows + doors

• framing lumber + subfloor materials

CRAWLSPACE FOUNDATIONS

Building your home with a wood subfloor and a crawlspace has several advantages over the less expensive concrete slab.
Crawlspace construction methods have these benefits:

building sip wall• Mechanical + wiring is easier to install and maintain. The structure is first erected, then the mechanicals are installed exactly where they need to go, instead of setting them in a concrete slab much earlier on, which can lead to problems.

• A floor over a crawlspace is more comfortable and easier on your legs and feet because it has more give, even when radiant heating tubes are installed with lightweight concrete over the decking.

• The home isn't built on fill, so there is less excavation. If your home is designed with a porch that is raised up a few steps from natural grade, fill dirt is often used in slab homes to raise the home. This involves cutting and filling (or just filling) to get the height which involves more excavation and more chance of settling later.

• There is better moisture control with a vented crawlspace and in areas where radon is a problem, a vented crawlspace is a good solution. When a home is set right into the ground, moisture and radon can wick and migrate into the home.

• An insulated crawlspace is more energy efficient because heat from the home is insulated off from the cooler ground below.

You can use any finish flooring on a crawlspace floor system, and you can also install under-floor radiant heat. The joists are sized for the weight of the flooring materials, if tile or brick. Most of our customers choose a radiant heating system for their homes.

We specify several other materials and methods on our plans in order to further increase the efficiency of the home.
